Identification: A 1:20 aqueous solution in 2.7 N hydrochloric acid gives positive tests for.
Assay: Not less than 95.0% and not more than 100.5% of Mg(OH)2 after drying.
Alkalies (Free) and Soluble Salts: Passes test.
Calcium Oxide: Not more than 1%.
Lead: Not more than 2 mg/kg.
Loss on Drying: Not more than 2.0%.
Loss on Ignition: Between 30.0% and 33.0%.
Magnesium Hydroxide BP
DEFINITION
Content: 95.0 per cent to 100.5 per cent of Mg(OH)2.CHARACTERS
Appearance: White, fine, amorphous powder.
Solubility: Practically insoluble in water. It dissolves in dilute acids.IDENTIFICATION
A. Dissolve about 15 mg in 2 ml of dilute nitric acid and neutralize with dilute sodium hydroxide solution. The solution gives the reaction of magnesium.
B. It complies with the test for loss on ignition (see Tests).TESTS
Solution S: Dissolve 5.0 g in a mixture of 50 ml of acetic acid and 50 ml of distilled water. Not more than slight effervescence is produced. Boil for 2 min, cool and dilute to 100 ml with dilute acetic acid. Filter, if necessary, through a previously ignited and tarred porcelain or silica filter crucible of suitable porosity to give a clear filtrate.
Appearance of solution: Solution S is not more intensely coloured than reference solution.
Soluble substances: Maximum 2.0 per cent.
Substances insoluble in acetic acid: Maximum 0.1 per cent.
Chlorides: Maximum 0.1 per cent.
Sulphates: Maximum 0.5 per cent.
0.6 ml of solution S diluted to 15 ml with distilled water complies with the limit test for sulphates.
Arsenic: Maximum 4 ppm.
Calcium: Maximum 1.5 per cent.
Iron: Maximum 0.07 per cent.
Heavy metals: Maximum 30 ppm.
Loss on ignition: 29.0 per cent to 32.5 per cent. Heat 0.5 g gradually to 900°C and ignite to constant mass.
Magnesium Hydroxide USP
Mg(OH)2 58.32 --- [CAS 1309-42-8].Magnesium Hydroxide, dried at 105 for 2 hours, contains not less than 95.0 percent and not more than 100.5 percent of Mg(OH)2.
Identification: A 1 in 20 solution in 3 N hydrochloric acid responds to the tests for Magnesium.
Microbial limits: It meets the requirements of the test for absence of Escherichia coli.
Loss on drying: Dry it at 105 for 2 hours: it loses not more than 2.0% of its weight.
Loss on ignition: Ignite it at 800 , increasing the heat gradually, to constant weight: it loses between 30.0% and 33.0% of its weight.
Soluble salts: Boil 2.0 g with 100 mL of water for 5 minutes in a covered beaker, filter while hot, cool, and dilute the filtrate with water to 100 mL. Titrate 50 mL of the diluted filtrate with 0.10 N sulfuric acid, using methyl red TS as the indicator: not more than 2.0 mL of the acid is consumed.
Evaporate 25 mL of the diluted filtrate to dryness, and dry at 105 for 3 hours: not more than 10 mg of residue remains.
Carbonate: Boil a mixture of 0.10 g with 5 mL of water, cool, and add 5 mL of 6 N acetic acid: not more than a slight effervescence is observed.
Limit of calcium: the limit is 1.5%.
Heavy metals: the limit is 20 <g per g.
Lead: limit is 0.001%.Magnesium Hydroxide Manufacturers Suppliers:

A jackal woke up early in the morning and went in to the plains. He looked at his long shadow in the rising morning sun and said to himself, "I must have a camel for my meal today".
He kept moving around till noon and it was getting hot and the jackal was tired. He was also hungry and thirsty. He looked at his small shadow in the mid-day sun. He murmered, "I was only joking about the camel, a mouse will do".
